Views from the Mahabharata on Reconciliation and Forgiveness


Yesterday Queen Elizabeth II shook hands with former Provisional Irish Republican Army leader (IRA), Martin McGuiness, now British Parliamentary MP for Mid Ulster. It was an event that many people who lived through the ‘Troubles’ in Ireland thought impossible.

The Mahabharata has something to say about the importance of forgiveness as part of reconciliation. Yesterday, my old friend Akhandadhi Das spoke briefly on the topic as part of his regular ‘Thought for the Day,’ a morning radio piece that goes out to around 7 million thoughtful listeners. I thought I would share it here.
